ALRIGHT! By now you should be gaining a much greater understanding of the reasons behind your emotional eating as you work through the exercises in 7 Simple Steps to Stop Emotional Eating.
Have you been surprised by how specific events, and memories from your past influence your present day eating habits?
Equally, are you amazed to find out how you think about yourself also keeps you in the grip of over eating and stuck behaviour?
Insight is a powerful step towards transforming your relationship with food. But, insight alone will not be enough to help you successfully lose weight.
Every insight you gain about your excess weight, however shocking and amazing they may seem, are potential transformational gifts.
We are going to repeat that sentence so that it can really sink in.
It is one of those "truths" that takes a second to sink in.
Every insight you gain about your excess weight, however shocking and amazing they may seem, are potential transformational gifts.
Read on, and you'll realise why this is such a critical step in your transformation.
What we mean by this is that every thought, memory or belief you discover about yourself that influences your behaviour around food is a potential opportunity for you to transform your beliefs, and change how you think, and feel about yourself.
It’s vital that you take these insights, and as we recommend, record them in a dedicated notebook so that you can use the therapy tools included in our book to clear them for good so that they can no longer trigger you to comfort eat, or cause self-sabotaging behaviour around food.
To illustrate the potential transformational power of insight here is a case study of one of Sally’s clients at her London clinic.
Gillian was a 45 year old single, professional who worked in a demanding senior management position. With a good circle of friends she was well liked, and respected at work. She lived alone, and had a busy social life of cinema, and theatre outings as well as a couple of exotic sun, and sand holidays each year.
Outwardly Gillian was doing pretty well but she was carrying excess weight which she was desperate to lose. When we began working together she weighed over 127kg (Over 20 stone / + 280 lbs) and the extra weight on her knee joints was taking its toll making walking any further than the shortest distance an increasingly painful experience.
Gillian was worried her lack of mobility would spoil her next summer holiday. She also remembered being embarrassed when she flew last time, and the airplane's seat belt was too short to go across her tummy. An off-hand air steward had instructed her in a loud voice that she would have to use a seat belt extender.
Our work together progressed, and Gillian responded well to learning EFT and using PSTEC to reduce her portion sizes. The hypno part of the sessions helped her subconscious mind with positive suggestions focussing on the health benefits of being slimmer, and lighter. By the end of the six sessions she had cleared a whole raft of limiting negative beliefs and was steadily losing her excess weight working towards her target weight of 89kg. (14 stone / 196 lbs).
I didn’t hear from Gillian for over a year when she rang to say she wanted to come back for some more sessions as she had hit a barrier with her weight loss that she couldn’t get past. In fact she had been stuck at 100+ kg (16 stone / 224lbs) for over six months, and nothing she did would shift her off that plateau.
Hitting a barrier in weight loss, or being stuck on a plateau is a not uncommon, but is often an interesting phenomenon with clients who are emotional eaters, especially with those who have steadily been losing weight up to that point.
Here was some mysterious barrier that she couldn't push through, and stopped her from continuing to lose more weight.
I thought to myself, "Why would her weight loss stop like this?" I was interested to have her back in my clinic, and discover whatever further resistance was keeping her stuck.
No one was more bemused than she was. "What is this barrier?" She asked,
"Why can't I lose more weight than this?"
What followed was a realisation that I hope you can share with me.
And it PROVES that losing weight is ALL IN THE MIND, and the vital importance of insights as potential transformational opportunities.
You can't avoid it.
And the longer you ignore this (especially if you're overweight, up against your own weight loss barrier, or have hit your own plateau... the more frustration, and disappointment you are going to feel.
We worked together with EFT which is a technique we explain in our book, 7 Simple Steps to Stop Emotional Eating. It is a brilliant tool for revealing hidden motivations, and the deeper reasons behind what is happening for you. We also worked with the Time Line Protocol that features in Step One of the book.
And, we found it. She was her own barrier.
She found the emotional reason that formed the barrier keeping her from reaching the goal weight she consciously so desired. And, no-one was more surprised than she was.
And, it was all in her head.
Through the Time Line work we did together she recalled that when she was twenty-one she weighed just under 100 kg (16 stone / 224lbs) the weight she currently just couldn’t get past.
Under regression hypnosis she recalled many details of a serious relationship she had while at college. Her boyfriend was not a positive experience for any woman to have, but that was especially true for a young woman just finding herself in the world. His behaviour towards her worsened over their three years together. He changed from being caring, and attentive to jealous, and controlling including incidents when his verbal put-downs escalated to include physical threats.
The memories of this painful relationship put her in touch with very real fears she had that she had not been consciously aware of.
Her irrational fear, “ If I get back to my previous weight I might get myself into another abusive relationship” had not been expressed consciously. However, it was expressed emotionally by ensuring she self-sabotaged her weight loss, and stayed over weight which in her mindset meant safe from male attention.
When potential transformational insights are made it is important never to judge them as right or wrong, or even decide they are logical, or illogical. They are however opportunities to clear old memories, events, and beliefs that keep you stuck.
We worked through the main aspects of her old memories from that time with both the free PSTEC click tracks, alternating with the PSTEC Enhanced Effectiveness click tracks to release the really stubborn negative emotions.
Already Gillian was looking lighter, and more confident!
I then suggested she composed a sentence to use with PSTEC Positive to reinforce deep into her subconscious mind that she could trust herself to be slim, and make healthy decisions about romantic relationships.
I heard back from her a several months later when she emailed to say she had reached, and was staying at her goal weight of 89kg (14 stone / 196 lbs), and was even enjoying dating again for the first time in a long time.
N.B. This is a real life case study. The client’s name and minor details has been changed for reasons of confidentiality. Written testimonial exist to support the claims made here.
Gillian’s case study illustrates that hitting a weight loss barrier, or getting stuck on a weight plateau FORCED her to acknowledge that the blocks... the plateau... was all in her head.
Think about it again:
There's no medical reason she could not reach her goal weight...
In other words, there’s NOBODY OUTSIDE OF YOU saying “You can't achieve your goal weight! You've lost all the weight you’re going to lose, and now you have to stay heavy!"
There's that old truth: You can't solve a problem if you don't know it exists.
So the message in this posting is all about CONFRONTING your own limiting beliefs... your own blocks...to successful weight loss.
Your mission for the next few days as you work through your own 7 Simple Steps to Stop Emotional Eating is to have the courage to explore your own emotional barriers to successful weight loss, and to use the therapy tools we share in the book
- to face your barriers
- acknowledge their existence
- acknowledge there’s no external reason blocking you
- acknowledge that the limit is inside your mind
And finally:
Acknowledge that without SEEING this, you will always remain struggling to lose your excess weight.
We believe in you.

Acknowledging your emotional barriers to losing weight requires revealing, and clearing memories, and events from your past with EFT, and PSTEC.
EFT is effective for revealing the deeper reasons which block your weight loss success, and PSTEC is powerful for reducing or erasing negative beliefs attached to old memories, and events. You can do the majority, or sometimes all of your clearing work with just the two free PSTEC click tracks. The choice of tracks helps to keep the subconscious from becoming too familiar to any one set of tapping instructions so you can use them alternatively, or occasionally switch tracks to add variety.
In recent years, the creator of PSTEC has developed PSTEC Accelerator tracks that work even better and faster. They can stimulate recall so that you are able to clear more issues. They are almost essential for longer term use to ensure your subconscious does not become overly familiar with the order of clicks, and tones in the two free click tracks.
You can turbo charge the results you get working through 7 Simple Steps to Stop Emotional Eating with the optional purchase of PSTEC Accelerator Package.
What does this package contain?
